What is The Safari Collective?
The Safari Collective is a leading boutique safari-specialist marketing and brand services agency. Founded and led by award-winning writer and former journalist Sharon Gilbert-Rivett, we exist to serve the safari industry specifically, with content, websites and brand strategy built around 45 years of writing experience and 30 years of immersion in the African safari landscape. We work with lodges, camps, tour operators and DMCs across Africa and internationally, producing content that is crafted for humans first and algorithms second, performing well for both.
What services does The Safari Collective offer?
We are a content marketing specialist, not a full-service agency in the traditional sense. We don't do paid advertising, PR or event management directly, though we work alongside specialists in those disciplines when our clients need them. What we do, we do exceptionally well: content retainers covering blogs, social media, newsletters and website copy, website design and development on the Duda platform, and project-based work including brand voice development, content strategy and one-off content commissions. Every service is delivered with the editorial standards of a seasoned journalist and the commercial understanding of someone who has spent three decades inside the safari industry.
What makes The Safari Collective different from other marketing agencies?
Most marketing agencies that work with safari clients are generalists who have added tourism to their portfolio. We're the opposite: a specialist built from the ground up around the safari industry, led by someone whose entire career has been spent in and around it and the African bush. Our content carries genuine authority, specific knowledge and a voice that the safari market recognises and trusts, because it comes from people who understand the industry from the inside rather than from a brief.
Do you work with all types of safari businesses or only specific ones?
We work with safari lodges, camps, tour operators and DMCs across Africa and internationally. Our sweet spot is the owner-operated or independently minded business that has built something genuinely worth talking about and is ready to invest in telling that story properly. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
Where are you based and which markets do you work in?
We are based in the Greater Kruger region of South Africa, and work with clients across Africa and internationally. Our client base spans Southern and East Africa, with reach into source markets including the United Kingdom, Europe and North America.
What kind of content does The Safari Collective produce?
We produce the full range of written and digital content that a safari brand needs to tell its story properly: blogs, social media posts for Facebook and Instagram, newsletters, website copy, brand voice guidelines, collateral and content strategy. Everything is written in the client's voice, to a journalistic standard, with the specific knowledge of people who have spent decades in the field. Rather than producing generic content that could belong to any brand, we produce content that could only belong to yours.
How does TSC approach SEO, AEO and GEO in its content?
SEO, AEO and GEO are the natural consequence of writing well as opposed to bolt-on processes. Search engines reward content that is specific, authoritative and genuinely useful and AI platforms cite content that answers questions with precision and credibility. Geo-targeted discovery tools surface content that is rooted in real places and real expertise. Great storytelling does all of this organically, which is why we don't write for algorithms and still outperform content that does. The best thing you can do for your search visibility is commission writing that a human being would actually want to read.
How do you maintain brand voice consistency across different clients?
Every client relationship begins with a brand voice exercise, a process of identifying what the brand actually sounds like at its best, what values drive it, who it's speaking to and what it needs to say differently from every other property or operator in its category. That voice then runs through everything we produce, from a 1,000-word blog to a six-word Instagram caption, so that every piece of content is recognisably, distinctly that brand and no other. Consistency is the foundation of everything we do.
How often should a safari business be publishing new content?
Often enough to signal to search engines that the website is alive, the socia media pages active and to give prospective guests a reason to return before they've made a booking decision, but never so often that quality is sacrificed for volume. For most safari businesses, a minimum of one blog a month, a consistent social media presence (we recommend a minimum of 12 posts a month) and a monthly or bimonthly newsletter represents a workable and effective content cadence. The exact frequency depends on the brand, the audience and the commercial objectives, and it's something we agree with every client at the start of the relationship rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all schedule.
Does The Safari Collective build websites?
Absolutely. Website design and development is a core service, delivered exclusively on the Duda platform by our certified Duda developer. We build websites for safari lodges, camps, tour operators and DMCs that are as visually compelling as the destinations they represent and as easy to navigate as a well-guided game drive. Every site is built with SEO, AEO and GEO of paramount important, built in from the ground up with some of the best native optimisation of any website platform.
What platform do you build on and why?
We build exclusively on Duda, and the choice is deliberate. Duda is a professional website platform built for agencies, with performance, security and mobile optimisation built into its architecture in ways that consumer platforms simply cannot match. It loads fast, ranks well, looks exceptional and offers exemplary organic results where SEO, AEO and GEO are concerned. We also prioritise accessibility for every site we develop. Every website is built and maintained by a certified Duda developer, which means the technical standard is consistent across every project we take on.
Can you work with our existing website or do we need to start from scratch?
It depends on what you're working with. If your existing site is on Duda, we can work with it directly. If it's on another platform, including WordPress, we don't manage, migrate or improve it technically. That boils down to choice. While we are technically able to work with WordPress and other platforms like Wix, we just don't want to. What we can do is create improved or fresh content for sites on other platforms, but the technical management would need to stay with your existing developer. If a rebuild is the right solution, we'll say so honestly and quote accordingly. Duda is proprietary software rather than open source, which means a site built on Duda stays within the Duda ecosystem. If you ever want to move it, it transfers to another certified Duda developer or to your own Duda account, not to a generic hosting environment. It's worth understanding that distinction before we begin any website project together.
How does a retainer relationship with TSC work?
A retainer is a monthly content agreement that covers an agreed scope of work, typically a combination of blogs, social media posts and newsletter content, delivered consistently and to a standard that doesn't vary from month to month. Every retainer begins with a brand voice and content strategy exercise so that what we produce is always purposeful, always on brand and always moving the audience somewhere specific rather than simply filling a calendar. Retainers are invoiced monthly, scoped clearly in a service level agreement and reviewed regularly to make sure the content is doing the job it was commissioned to do.
What is the minimum commitment for working with TSC?
We work on a minimum 12-month retainer basis, because content without consistency doesn't build anything worth having and 12 months is the minimum time needed for a content programme to establish itself, find its voice and begin producing results that compound meaningfully over time. Website projects are quoted per project with payment terms agreed upfront. If you're looking for a short-term content fix or a one-off campaign, we're probably not the right fit for each other, and we'd rather tell you that honestly than take a brief we can't deliver on properly.
How do we get started?
With a conversation. No proposal forms, no lengthy tender processes, no obligation. Just a straightforward discussion about what your brand needs, what you're currently doing and where the gaps are. If there's a fit, we'll tell you. If there isn't, we'll tell you that too.
